PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
